The following is a spreadsheet you can use to calculate how
much wood, corn, or coal you will need to burn to equal what you are
paying now. You can also calculate how much you will save in one
years time.
Any of the green boxes can be edited.
You may have to download an add in to view the spreadsheet.
Please note that several factors can contribute to how much heat you
will use. All figures are approximate and may vary depending on your
circumstances.
Also it should be noted that outdoor wood furnaces can be classified
at near the following efficiencies
75% for Sequoyah HTM
65% Furnaces with under the grates forced
drafts
55% for forced draft furnaces that do not have
grates
50% for natural draft furnaces
All figures are approximate and can change
depending on furnace design. Efficiencies can easily be 10-15%
higher or lower based on quality of wood.
What you want to do is input the amount of fuel
you used last year into the proper fields, the cost of the fuel you
expect to pay this year and if you know the effcientcy of your
furnace change it in the effceintcy column
